How We Score and Rank ADA-Compliant Web Design Agencies

Transparency is the foundation of this directory. Every agency listed here — including Grow Wild Agency, which maintains this directory — is evaluated using the same objective methodology. No agency can pay for a higher ranking.

Scoring Criteria

Each agency receives an overall score from 0-100, calculated as a weighted composite of five evaluation categories:

Accessibility Expertise

35% weight

The most heavily weighted category. We evaluate: WCAG version and conformance level they build to, professional certifications on staff (CPACC, WAS, IAAP), testing methodology (automated-only vs. manual vs. real user testing with people with disabilities), overlay stance (agencies that rely solely on overlay widgets score lower), screen reader testing practices, and Section 508 expertise.

Portfolio Quality

20% weight

We run Lighthouse accessibility audits on live client websites. We assess semantic HTML structure, keyboard navigability, screen reader compatibility, and overall implementation quality. Agencies with consistently high-scoring client sites earn higher marks.

Client Reviews

20% weight

We aggregate reviews from Google Business, Clutch.co, and our own on-site verified reviews. We consider both rating and volume — an agency with a 4.8 rating across 50 reviews scores higher than one with 5.0 across 3 reviews. We also analyze review content for mentions of accessibility quality.

Compliance Depth

15% weight

How thorough is their compliance process? Do they provide VPATs? Compliance letters? Do they offer ongoing monitoring? Do they test with multiple assistive technologies? Agencies with deep, documented compliance processes score highest.

Transparency

10% weight

Pricing clarity, process documentation, public case studies, and communication responsiveness. Agencies that publish their pricing, document their process, and respond to verification requests score higher.

What Disqualifies an Agency

  • Agencies that exclusively sell overlay widgets as their accessibility solution are not listed in this directory.
  • Agencies making false WCAG compliance claims that cannot be verified are removed.
  • Agencies with documented legal issues related to accessibility fraud or misrepresentation.
  • Agencies that use overlays as part of a broader remediation strategy may be listed but are flagged accordingly.

How Agencies Can Claim Their Listing

Any agency can claim their listing for free by verifying their business email. Claimed listings can update their information, respond to reviews, and provide additional documentation. Claiming a listing does not affect scoring.

Update Frequency

Agency scores are recalculated monthly. Lighthouse audits of portfolio sites are run quarterly. Reviews are synced weekly. Editorial reviews are updated annually or when an agency undergoes significant changes.
